The County Committee for Emergency Situations Mureş met again, on Wednesday, after increases in the salinity of water in the Târnava Mică river, generated by the massive infiltrations in the Salina Praid area. The population in the area was advised to make drinking water stocks, informs news.ro.

On Wednesday, an extraordinary meeting of CJSU Mures took place, which discussed the situation of the salinity in the Târnava Mică river.

“The measure of evacuation of a flow of 5 cubic/second from the Bezid dam for the next hours and if necessary will be increased to 10 cubic/second (if the situation imposes) will be taken,” Mures Prefecture said, following the CJSU meeting.

Also, according to the quoted source, the distribution of drinking water continues in an emergency regime, with the involvement of local authorities and intervention teams especially for the elderly, children, sick, and for the other citizens through the water supply points instituted by SC Aquaserv SA with the support of the local public authorities.

“The water from the public network and the current sources is not considered adequate for the watering of the animals, for which starting with 12.06.2025. The water transports with tanks provided by the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations will be resumed.

There is also the imminent risk of stopping the water plants from the fountains (in the next hours) and Târnăveni (during Thursday). We recommend the population from the areas served by the two water factories (Târnăveni municipality, adding communes, Pămăciu, Fântânele and Găneşti) to carry out drinking water stocks for consumption and household use, as a prevention measure.

At the beginning of the month, the authorities in Mures county demanded the establishment of the alert status for several localities in the county, including the municipality of Târnăveni, affecting about 39,000 people.

“The County Committee for Emergency Situations informs that, following the massive water infiltration in the Corund stream, Salina Praid was completely flooded, and its activity was definitively closed on May 29, 2025. This incident affected the hydrogeological balance in the area, and as a side effect, there was an increase of salinity in the water. The specialists continuously monitor the quality of the water ”, then transmitted the Mures Prefecture.
