Andrzej Duda declared that if after the end of his term of office there is a need and a function that “does not violate the dignity of the President's office, he would seriously consider taking her. The dignity of the office – he assessed – does not violate the position of the prime minister.

During Wednesday's conversation on Radio Wnet, he was asked, among others for your plans after the end of the term.

President Duda declared that – if after the end of his presidency there is a need and a function he could perform, he would “seriously consider taking her” – if he said – he would not violate the dignity of the office of the President of the Republic of Poland. He added that he always treated his role in politics and the function of potentially he would depend on “what political needs and social views will be.”

When asked whether the prime minister's function violates the dignity of this office, the president reminded that after the end of his presidential second term Aleksander Kwasniewski “was presented by the left as a candidate for prime minister.” As he noted, “no one questioned it at the time” whether it would be a suitable function for the former president.

Duda emphasized that the function of the head of the government is “the most important executive function in the state.” At the same time – as Duda pointed out – the prime minister has the most tasks to perform and most competences, among all possible functions in the state, therefore – in his opinion – “this is not a violation of the dignity of” the office of the head of state.

A bigger problem – in his opinion – would be with the function of the Speaker of the Sejm, because – as he pointed out – to become the Speaker of the Sejm he would have to become a member first. “This means participation in the parliamentary elections in a district and a fight on the electoral list” – noted Duda and said that “for the former president who won the election at the national level, he does not face to compete in some campaign battle in the constituency.”

Andrzej Duda has been the president from 2015, he will end his second term in August. On August 6, Karol Nawrocki is to be sworn in as president. (PAP)
