For two years, reports have been circulating in the media as if the money obtained from the sale of the Chelsea football club was to be sent to Ukraine. Apparently, the British government lost his patience with Roman Abramowicz, because he begins to threaten him with a lawsuit. For now, 2.5 billion pounds of influence of Russian oligarch have been frozen in banks.

For about two years, scuffles have been going on between London and Roman Abramowicz regarding the amount obtained from the sale of Chelsea London. The government argues that they should be intended for humanitarian aid for Ukraine, and from the railway oligarch indicates that he would like them to reach “all victims of war”, including those living in Russia. London, however, opposed this solution.

“There is a space to negotiate, but we are also ready to continue talks in court if the need arises,” Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Minister of Foreign Affairs David Lammy said in a message sent to BBC News. As they pointed out, they would like people suffering in Ukraine to be able to use money as soon as possible. They also emphasize that “the British government is determined that the income from Chelsea sales will go to humanitarian purposes in Ukraine after the illegal and full -scale invasion of Russia.”

We are deeply frustrated by the fact that so far we have not been able to communicate with Mr. Abramowicz – they end.

Roman Abramowicz received a special license to sell the club, if he proves that he will not benefit from this transaction. 2.5 billion pounds only formally belong to him, because there is no practical access to them.

Part of the money, which Roman Abramowicz financed the Chelsea FC football team, came from a clever attempt to avoid taxation through cash transfer by companies on the British Virgin Islands – according to a journalistic investigation carried out by the BBC. The Russian oligarch obviously denies the accusations.
