The election attendance was huge: about 72 percent went to the urns. entitled to vote, which is a record for the presidential election in Poland.
Just a few weeks ago, the PiS man in the second round of elections had many percentage points to Trzaskowski. On May 25, at the march in Warsaw, the president of the capital gathered 150,000 supporters. In turn, “only” 50,000 participated in Nawrocki's event. people, but it turned out that it didn't matter. The former boxer won.
Expert of the German Christian-Democratic Union (CDU) for foreign policy Paul Ziemiak expects Nawrocki's main task to “cause difficulties” to Tusk's government.
The new president will most likely continue the “blockade policy” conducted by Andrzej Duda. Early parliamentary elections are also possible.
The chairwoman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen very diplomatically congratulated Nawrocki through “BlueSky” and emphasized that she was convinced that “the EU would continue very good cooperation with Poland.”
“Let's work together to ensure the safety and prosperity of our common homeland,” she appealed to Nawrocki.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also emphasized the partnership between Germany and Poland. “Let's work together to strengthen friendship between our nations!” He said.
According to Steinmeier, a strong Europe needs good Polish-German cooperation, especially nowadays. The President of Germany invited Nawrocki to Berlin.
Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann from a free democratic party (FDP) took on a different tone towards the new Polish president. “This is not a good morning for the largest peace project in the world: Europe,” she said.
The FDP MEP warned that the Polish government must “now prepare for a total opposition on the part of an enemy president”, which “will do everything in its power to overthrow the Tusk government, as announced by the election campaign.”

The Polish Newsweek writes in a similar tone: “Without his own president, the coalition will never be able to make key changes in the state, realistically repair the mess, what eight years of PiS rule left behind in such areas as the judiciary.”
Nawrocki's victory “launches processes that can cause PiS return to power before the election in 2027”.
“Continuation of the Kaczyński era”
The president is the commander -in -chief of the armed forces, so the issue of security was one of the priorities of the election campaign.
Nawrocki, a former boxer, played amazingly well his match at the election ring despite the accusations directed towards him:
These and other accusations apparently did not hurt Nawrocki. Duda's term ends on August 6.
