“Drone fragments damaged the main hospital in the city of Kursk. The windows were broken, but fortunately, no patient was injured. The fragments fell over several high residential buildings,” Governor Alexander Khinshtein said on Telegram, Reuters reports.

The attack comes in a context of escalating tensions in the Russian-Ukrainian border area, especially in the Kursk and Sumî regions.

Russia is gaining ground in Sumî region

Over the border, in the Ukrainian region Sumî, the governor Oleg Hryhorov reported on Friday, May 30, new confrontations in the villages near the border, confirming that the Russian forces have gained control over at least four localities.

“Active struggles continue in some border areas, especially near Khotyn and Yunakivka. The situation on the contact line always changes. In some places we have the initiative, in others, the enemy is more active”, said Oleg Hryhorov on Facebook.

Putin wants a buffer area in the sum

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said he wants to create a buffer area in the Sumî region, which he accuses to have served as a launching point for Ukrainian incursions in the Russian territory, including in the Kursk region.

Russia argues that Ukrainian forces that have been incursing in the Kursk area last year were eliminated.

In parallel, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that its troops have won three more villages on the Eastern Front: Stroivka, in Kharkov region, and Shevchenko Pershe and Hnivka, near Pokrovsk.

The Ukrainian army did not confirm the loss of these localities. Thursday night, Kiev authorities reported that Russian forces have launched 53 attacks in the last 24 hours near Pokrovsk.
