Russian parliamentarians on Monday organized a round table in which they criticized Western cartoons, toys and video games, accusing fictitious characters such as having a “destructive impact” on children in the Russian Federation, The Moscow Times notes.

“It does not seem bad, but they have both physical and character defects,” said the deputy of the state of the state, Yana Lantova, who presented slides that contrasting the “good” films and toys with those from the Western countries.

“Gradually, with the infiltration of the Western culture, characters who embody negative features, but who were elevated to the rank of positive characters, began to appear,” it said in one of the slides. “The image of the pure positive character began to disappear.”

Fictitious characters such as Shrek and Grinch were presented on the screen, as well as some of the American animated film “Monsters Inc.”, released in 2001.

Serghei Mironov, the leader of the opposition party fair Russia, accused the West of carrying a “hybrid war” against Russia and warned that the hostile governments of Moscow are following the saying: “If you want to defeat an enemy, educate their children.”

“Unfortunately, (Western countries) are very active in indoctrination of our children,” said Mironov.

Lantova, a member of the fair Russia and president of the Commission for Civil Society and Religious Organizations of the State Duma, said that a legislative vacuum prevents Russian authorities from blocking the Western content for children.

She stated that she intends to convey the proposals made within the round table of the working group in the lower chamber of Parliament, which deals with the legal implementation of “traditional Russian spiritual values.”
