The Russian army has launched a missile attack on a military base of Ukraine's ground forces on Tuesday evening, July 29, after several Ukrainian military being killed or injured, writes The Kyiv Independent.
The Ukrainian terrestrial forces announced, in a message published on the Telegram messenger application, that at least three killed soldiers were reported by local time, and another 18 suffered injuries on the military polygon. Emergency services intervene, at the time of broadcasting this news, on the spot.
“Despite the security measures taken, unfortunately, it was not possible to completely avoid the victims among the military personnel, the ground forces have transmitted.
The army announced that an official investigation was launched to determine the causes that led to the loss of the lives of these soldiers. Also, a commission was set up by the head of the military law application service to investigate the attack.
“If it is found that the actions or inactions of the officials have led to the death or injury of the military personnel, those responsible will be held accountable,” the Ukrainian ground forces said.
Military management also implements “additional security measures” to protect the lives of soldiers during Russian attacks on training grounds and training centers, the ground forces said.
The attack follows a series of Russian bombings on the Ukrainian military facilities, carried out in May and June.
These attacks took place after the former commander of the Ground Forces, General Mihailo Drapatyi, has committed to provide new safety standards on the training grounds and to hold those responsible for the deaths from a Russian attack in March.
Following the bombings that followed in May and June-including a June 1 attack on a training polygon, resulting in 12 dead and 60 injured-Drafatyi presented his resignation as the commander of the Ground Forces. He was appointed commander of the forces gathered on June 3.
Brigadier General Hennadi Șapovalov was later appointed instead of Drafatyi as commander of Ukrainian Land Forces.
