Thousands of people invaded the center of Bucharest, with the flags of Romania and the European Union, chanting the name of their hero, Nicușor Dan, and the slogan “Russia, Romania not you”. Dancing and singing, an indescribable joy. The people of the independent candidate did not wait for the official results. Immediately after the Exit-Poll results that placed him in the leadership, they went out on the streets in one night that seems to have already entered history: it is the first difficult blow for the sovereigns in Europe, reports Corriere della Sera.
The Italian publication writes that the pro -European mayor of Bucharest has achieved what many analysts described as a miracle – overturned the result of the first round, in which the sovereignist George Simion had obtained a double score compared to his, and was not even a shoulder race as it was anticipated. At midnight, Nicușor Dan could no longer be caught up in his counter -final.
Corriere della Sera writes that, as the count continues, tensions grow against the background of endless fear that the elections could be transformed into a disorder night, in a country divided by the cancellation of the 2024. However, this has not discouraged the holiday.
A lot of people, especially young people, gathered on Regina Elisabeta Boulevard. They came with the flags of Romania and the European Union, applauding their hero who managed to catalyze the support of the Romanian pro-European of all kinds, writes Corriere della Sera, who discussed with some of them in the gardens of the Cotroceni Palace, which the interim president Ilie Bolojan opened after the mandate.
“We do not know if those who come after him will close them again,” they said, with anxiety, after the vote.
The Italian publication also writes that Nicușor Dan's success came after a week of fierce exchanges between the two candidates, a “war” worn mainly on social networks.
“These elections were the most social in history,” estimates Elena Calistru, from Funky Citizen. The NGO mentioned that the candidates' posts generated a record “involvement”, with 100 million interactions during this campaign, although they usually stay on the order of several hundred. Another indicator is represented by the flags, with the help of which we report the non -adequate content to the suppliers. “Normally, in the campaigns we are under 700, in this we reach 5 thousand.”
