Shipyards will receive PLN 240 million for development and new investments


On Wednesday, an investment agreement was signed to recapitalize the shipbuilding industry in Szczecin with PLN 240 million. The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka and the president of the Company Development Fund (FRS) Aleksandra Skibniewska. From the pool of funds, PLN 170 million will go to the construction of a floating dock implemented by the Szczecin volcano shipyard for the Gryfia Morska Shipyard.
The contract signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Wulkan shipyard management, exactly a year after the new management of the company was taken over. As Deputy Minister Marchewka emphasized, in 2023 the company ended its operations with a loss of PLN 136 million, while 2024 closed a net profit of about PLN 17 million.
“When we took over responsibility for the shipyards, I said that the time of party nominees is over, the time has come for professionals in the maritime economy and today we have the effects” – noted Marchewka. He also added: “We want the Szczecin Shipyard to be a modern shipyard, responding to the challenges of the future in the maritime economy, which is why our government decided that we will recapitalize the shipyards in Szczecin with the amount of PLN 240 million.”

230 million for completing the dock
FRS funds are to support not only the construction of a dock for Gryfia, but also the development of volcano infrastructure – including new production halls and advanced sheet bending machines. President Skibniewska announced that PLN 170 million will be allocated to completing a over 230-meter dock, and another PLN 50 million will go to modernization and automation of production processes. Some funds will also support other Szczecin shipyard companies, such as Gryfia.
“Today we are taking the next step in the development process of the West Pomeranian shipbuilding sector” – noted the president of FRS.
The new contract for the construction of the dock will replace the previous contract, which was terminated by agreement of the parties. It is to be implemented within 24 months and amounts to about PLN 380 million. As announced, funds from the Company Development Fund may go to the volcano accounts in May.
Carrot reminded that the original contract of 2020 could threaten the bankruptcy of two Szczecin shipyards. “Now we have signed a contract in a new formula. In one that is profitable, based on an economic account that has undergone a private investor's tests” – he emphasized. He also noted that irregularities from previous years are analyzed by relevant services.
Grzegorz Huszcz, an advisor to the Board of the Volcano for the Production Organization, added that the new contract was verified by UOKiK and the General Prosecutor's Office. He called the previous contract “irrational and unprepared”. Only 35 percent were carried out within it. construction and 3 percent equipment, despite the fact that “the entire contract was consumed”. Some funds, as the president of Skibniewska pointed out, was used for purposes not related to the construction of the dock.

“Rational modification”
According to Huszcz, the value of the work performed so far reached PLN 256 million. To complete the construction, it was necessary to “rationalize, slimming the project”. He emphasized: “The final effect is that the dock will continue to do a dock with full ability as a lifting tool, repairs of ships in Gryfia. It will meet all formal requirements of the classifier. So this is a full -fledged structure, only rationally modified.”
The dock built (measuring 235 m long and 47 m wide) is created in three modules. One has already been launched, the other is at the finish and the third in production. By the end of the year, it is planned to launch the other two parts. The cost of transport (about PLN 20 million) of the dock to the Tri -City was abandoned – the entire production and assembly will take place in Szczecin.
The president of the shipyard Radosław Kowalczyk announced that about 2,000 work in the Szczecin Shipyard. people (of which the volcano itself employs approx. 200). He emphasized the role of cooperation with the private sector in the development of the shipbuilding industry.
“After a year of work of the board and the entire shipbuilding team, we obtained stabilization of the company,” said Kowalczyk. He explained that the shipyard carries out profitable contracts, cooperates with private entities and acquires new orders. The restructuring plan was written for 18 months.

What does the shipyard do?
As part of operational activities, the shipyard focuses on three areas: production for the offshore sector (including elements of wind farms), the construction of ship blocks (including shipyards in Germany and Finland) and cooperation with private companies in the shipyard (e.g. sheet metal treatment, painting).
“The company is growing in competence,” said Kowalczyk. Currently, there are nearly 70 companies in the volcano, and about 2,000 work there. people. He added that the shipyard uses its production capacity maximally and announced that information about new contracts will soon appear, including specialized units. He also noted that the development of offshore and the construction of wind farms in the Baltic Sea creates great opportunities for the region.
