Kyiv Partially Restores Traffic on Southern Bridge After Missile Strike

Following a missile strike on Kyiv, traffic has been partially restored on the Southern Bridge. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage from ballistic missiles aimed at the city, impacting both the bridge and metro infrastructure. Consequently, metro services between the “Osokorky” and “Chervonyi Khutir” stations have been temporarily suspended.
The Kyiv City Military Administration (KVMDA) announced that one lane of the Southern Bridge has been reopened, allowing light vehicles to cross from the left bank to the right bank. Drivers are advised to take these traffic limitations into account when planning their routes.
Meanwhile, traffic from the right bank to the left bank remains closed as technical work continues at the site. Further updates on the resumption of this route will be provided as they become available.
Additionally, specialists from municipal enterprises and scientists are collaborating on technical solutions to repair the damaged structures of the Southern Bridge, including those that support metro operations.
Context
- Experts are investigating which specific missiles were used in the strike on the Southern Bridge, as stated by Yuri Ignat, head of communications for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on October 27. He also noted that fully destroying the structure would be difficult.
- According to a report from The New York Times on October 3, bridges have become a new target in Russia’s strike campaign. The publication indicated that even without complete destruction, attacks could lead to prolonged closures, causing significant logistical issues for the capital and the entire country. In response to the strikes, plans are underway to build alternative crossings over the Dnipro.
