Ukrainian Drone Attack Strikes Belgorod, Russia, Causing Casualties

A significant wave of Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian border city of Belgorod late Saturday night, according to local authorities, as reported by Kyiv Independent and Reuters.
The strikes led to the deaths of two individuals and left 13 others injured, local officials announced on Sunday.
Regional governor Alexander Shuvayev reported that the attack damaged 30 residential buildings, 35 vehicles, four houses, three administrative buildings, eight commercial spaces, and three social institutions.
The operational headquarters in Belgorod confirmed the “massive drone attack” on the city and stated that emergency services were dispatched to the affected areas.
Residents indicated that most of the drones concentrated on a specific area in central Belgorod.
According to the monitoring channel Exilenova-Plus, the primary target of the assault was the MegaGRINN shopping complex, the largest entertainment and shopping center in Belgorod.

MegaGRINN spans over 163,000 square meters and houses more than 200 stores, including a supermarket, cinema, and restaurants. The complex was closed during the nighttime attack.
Located just 34 kilometers from Ukraine’s northeastern border and approximately 70 kilometers from Kharkiv, Belgorod’s proximity to the front lines makes it a frequent target for Ukrainian strikes. This is especially relevant given Kyiv’s expanding long-range capabilities that allow drones to reach deep into Russian territory.
Previous Ukrainian attacks on Belgorod have targeted energy infrastructure and logistics depots, including facilities belonging to the major Russian retailer Ozon.
