Following the 1-1 draw against Sepsi, Petrolul Ploiești’s coach Ricardo Sousa expressed his disappointment during a post-match statement. The game, part of the 12th round of the Superliga, saw the home team take the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from Santos Teixeira. However, Sepsi equalized just eight minutes later with a goal from Doru Andrei.
“We were prepared for a tough match, and we are not happy when we do not win at home,” Sousa said. He emphasized that the team had committed to fighting for results until the last minute to secure all three points, acknowledging that sometimes they lose points.
He noted that the first half was particularly challenging, as they could not exert pressure as effectively as in previous matches, but he felt the second half was better for his team. “We need to do more and create more opportunities. As I always say, we are building for the future. We will continue to work hard and improve,” Sousa stated.
He also highlighted the importance of taking something from games when not winning all three points. Despite the draw, he expressed appreciation for the fans who supported the team even in the rain, stating, “With them by our side, we will win matches. Sepsi is a good team, but we have gained a point. We are not happy; we need to build.”
Currently, Petrolul Ploiești occupies fourth place in the standings with 20 points, but they risk being surpassed this round by both U Cluj and Farul Constanța if those teams win their respective matches against FC Argeș and Universitatea Craiova.
