Bacau dreams of having a new stadium. The old arena has become a ruin, and mayor Lucian Daniel Stanciu Viziteu promises that, finally, after years of waiting, the project could become a reality.

FC Bacău won Group B from the League 2 play-out, and in the near future they hope to reach the first stage of Romanian football. The Băcăuani hope to have a new stadium in the coming years, which was only a promise until now. This season, Bacăul did not play Municipal, which is a ruin but at the base from Letea.

On Tuesday, May 12, the city mayor announced on social networks that he will propose for approval in the meeting on Wednesday, May 13, the Zonal Urbanistic Plan of the Municipal Stadium. However, it is not the first time that he makes such a promise.

Exactly three years ago, in the spring of 2023, Bacău City Hall made the same move: proposed for debate the Zonal Urban Project (PUZ) for the demolition of the current stadium “Municipal” in the city and the construction of a new one with 20,800 seats. The initiative, however, had no finality!

Now, the mayor of Bacău promises that the situation will be completely different, and in the announcement explaining the necessary steps for the stadium to become a reality, he notes that “it is the first time that the project has concretely reached this stage”.

Another important step towards a new Municipal Stadium. I bring before the local councilors, for approval, the Zonal Urbanistic Plan of the Municipal Stadium, in the meeting on Wednesday, May 13.

The approval of this PUZ is essential for the realization of the new stadium. Without this legal and administrative step, any discussion about the construction of a new arena remains only at the level of intention. It is the first time that the project has concretely reached this stage.

Through the PUZ we clearly establish the destination of the entire sports area and the development rules: sports arena, training and tennis courts, accommodation and training spaces for athletes, parking lots and the necessary road infrastructure.

All this approach also has the role of definitively closing real estate speculation related to this area. The PUZ clearly confirms that we are talking about an area dedicated to sports and community, with precise development rules.

An important aspect, even if it may disturb some, is that we propose to increase the area of green spaces from 109,000 m2 to 127,000 m2.

After the approval of the Zonal Urban Plan we will be able to move on to the next stage: designing a stadium to current standards and building solid partnerships with the local private sector interested in sports and city development.

The plan was for the Bacău stadium to be the second most expensive in Romania's history

Three years ago, when this subject was discussed before, there was talk of a colossal estimated cost of 120 million euros for the arena of 20,000 inhabitants, which would make it the second most expensive stadium in the history of the country after the National Arena, with a capacity of 55,000 seats.

Since then, despite the promises and discussions surrounding the stadium, there had been fears that only residential complexes would eventually be built, not a new stadium, which is why several tenants' associations vehemently opposed the project.

Now, the mayor of the city assures that there is no real estate plan for that land, and the new city arena will be built in place of the old stadium.
