Dominic Fritz will take the oath on December 18, from 12:00, at the headquarters of the National Authority for Citizenship in Bucharest.

On November 13, Dominic Fritz, who is a German citizen, announced that he passed the interview test and received a positive opinion for obtaining Romanian citizenship.

“Romania, that's it, I'm one of yours! I passed the interview test and received a positive opinion for obtaining Romanian citizenship. Thank you, Romania, for welcoming me into your home 22 years ago. You made me an adult, you made me European, you made me more tenacious, warmer, more inventive. And now you made me a Romanian with the right documents. The oath is coming, at the next opportunity. Long live Romania, long live Europe!”he wrote, at that time, on Facebook.

Dominic Fritz was born in Germany and is president of the Save Romania Union (USR). Before becoming mayor of Timișoara in 2020, he was active in the Alianța 90/Verzii party (2009–2019) and was a political advisor to the former German president Horst Köhler.

The issue of citizenship was also invoked by party colleagues. Thus, in June 2025, just before the elections within the party, after the departure of Elena Lasconi, Eduard Răducan, candidate for the headship of USR, contested the candidacy of Dominic Fritz within the internal electoral commission, arguing that the lack of citizenship could raise legal and legitimacy problems.
