Medicover Highlights Health Impact in ESG Initiatives

In a recent discussion, Sonia Kondratowicz, Corporate Sustainability Director at Medicover, shed light on the company’s investment strategies and its role in alleviating the public healthcare system. Medicover aims to enhance its visibility regarding its contributions to sustainable growth at this pivotal moment. While many equate ESG indicators with carbon footprint reduction and workplace equality, Medicover emphasizes the importance of ‘H’ for health. This focus stems from the belief that health impact is a crucial component of sustainable development, intrinsic to the company’s ethos of “Everything for Your Health.”

Medicover has adopted a mathematical model from Finland, known as Upright, to quantify its impact on society. This model evaluates four main areas: Environment, Society, Knowledge, and Health, translating both positive and negative influences of services into financial and percentage values. The company proudly announced a +63% net impact score, positioning itself in the top 9% of publicly traded companies across all sectors, based on the MSCI ACWI IMI index, which includes approximately 9,000 firms representing 99% of the global market capitalization.

To bolster this positive impact, Medicover focuses heavily on preventive care and early diagnosis, currently conducting over 7.5 million screenings annually, targeting conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The goal is to increase this number to 10 million by 2030. The company also implements comprehensive health programs, like the “Healthy Weight” initiative, which has shown significant success in reducing health risks and improving quality of life for participants, contributing to over a year of additional healthy living.

Medicover’s efforts in healthcare extend beyond individual benefits; they also aim to support the public healthcare system by investing in modern health infrastructure. This dual approach of treating private patients and collaborating with the National Health Fund allows Medicover to effectively alleviate pressures on public services. To maintain high patient satisfaction, the company targets a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of at least 75 points.

While leading in health impact, Medicover remains committed to environmental sustainability. The company’s long-term goals include reducing direct emissions from operations and purchased energy by 42% by 2030, alongside a 51.6% reduction in emissions from its supply chain. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy employing renewable energy resources and adhering to stringent energy efficiency standards across new infrastructure projects.

Recognizing the importance of a dedicated workforce, Medicover aims to create a work environment that ranks among the top 25% for employee engagement. The company promotes internal career mobility, targeting a 20% to 30% rate for non-medical positions. Medicover approaches sustainability holistically, prioritizing ethics and transparency in business practices, ensuring that 100% of employees undergo advanced training on the Code of Conduct.

Moreover, Medicover expects its suppliers to align with its ethical standards, aiming for 95% of procurement value from suppliers committed to the Supplier Code of Conduct. As discussions around ESG have gained momentum, Medicover believes it is the right time to publicly share its sustainability efforts, demonstrating that responsible business growth can go hand in hand with ethical commitments. The company views its role as extending beyond traditional healthcare, focusing on improving overall life quality while caring for the environment.
