In a recent letter to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Congressman García requested documents and correspondence between the White House and Donald Trump Jr. regarding an individual with Kremlin ties. This inquiry includes possible warnings about Trump Jr.’s connections with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who leads an aggressive regime.
According to ProPublica, the Kremlin-connected individual, Umar Kremlov, who heads the International Boxing Association, covered expenses for a May party in the Bahamas that reportedly cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. The celebration took place on one of two private islands and included fireworks.
Kremlov is described as a close associate of Putin, and his boxing organization is allegedly financed by the Russian state energy company Gazprom.
A representative for Trump Jr. did not deny the payments, stating to ProPublica that Kremlov is a “personal friend” but asserted there are no business ties between them.
Donald Trump himself told Axios that he has “no idea who Umar is” and has never heard of him, claiming that Kremlov did not fund his son’s wedding. He clarified that the event in question was a post-wedding party hosted in honor of the newlyweds.
Additionally, García requested a complete guest list, contact information concerning Kremlov, and all correspondence with the White House and intelligence representatives, along with information on any purchases made for the wedding by foreigners on Trump Jr.’s behalf.
He also specifically inquired whether Kremlov provided Trump Jr. with anything of value in exchange for favorable treatment from the US government or information regarding the Trump administration.
