Artificial intelligence can find out our real age. How serious diseases can be detected using a selfie

Experts could use artificial intelligence to detect the real biological age of a person only through a selfie. The biological age, compared to the chronological one, can provide precious health and even approach of oncological treatments.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly used, in almost any field, and the results are amazing. There are also software that, through artificial intelligence, can detect the biological age of a person and the difference of years compared to chronological age. For example, a person who has a 60 -year chronological age can be a younger or older biological age, depending on how well cared or more genetic determinants. Finding the gaps between biological and chronological age, studies say, can help doctors evaluate their initial health and even develop oncological approaches in the future. A single selfie and a software with AI can help save lives, specialists show.

The selfie that says a lot about your health

Hugo Aerts, director of the artificial intelligence department in Birmingham medical programs, says that in the future the programs for recognizing biological age can be overwhelming in the medical world. Through a selfie, the doctor can make correlations between the age of the bulletin and the biological one, as described by the AI instruments. These correlations can lead to the revolution of diagnosis and even therapeutic approaches in oncological cases.

An unnatural aging person with age can be the indication of a chronic disease, including cancer. Based on the differences between biological and chronological age, doctors can establish therapeutic behaviors. “One of the first aspects considered, when a doctor treats a cancer patient, is the general health. It is usually a subjective finding, but it can influence many future decisions, on the line of treatment”, says Hugo Aerts for Live Science.

For example, says Aerts, a patient who looks younger than chronological age, can receive more aggressive treatment, because it indicates a better health. Those who are aged before the weather have a more precarious state of health, the specialists show. Programs such as Age can predict a person's biological age through estimates, based on selfie photographs entered in the database. The efficiency of the program was tested by specialists in a study conducted on more than 58,000 photos of people aged 60. In addition, the photos of over 6000 cancer patients were introduced. It was found that in the case of those who gave them an age 5 years older than the chronological chances of survival were lower. In other words, the aged had a poor state of health and failed to cope with the disease.

A basic aid in diagnosis

Currently, this kind of applications based on artificial intelligence are experimental in the medical field. I mean, say the specialists, we cannot, yet, the basis on them. There is a need for further research, improvements, precisely to become a good help in diagnosis, especially in the oncological field. Doctor Ray Mak, a radiotherapy specialist at Mass General Bright, says that once completed research on biological age recognition applications will be very useful for contouring a treatment. They will help doctors automatically gather all the necessary data about the patient, to provide adequate treatment. “They will not replace the decisions of the clinicians. But they can become a very important part of the medical instrument to customize the treatments.”adds Ray Mak for Live Science.
