Zelensky announces communication with Trump representatives

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “We are doing everything possible to ensure that war is not the only option for future events. It is important that America shares many of our views on the situation—on the frontline and the attacks,” emphasizing the need for active communication with United States representatives.

Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine is diligently working without breaks to strengthen its position. He promised to provide more details regarding communications with the US by tomorrow, August 31.

Earlier, on August 27, Kirill Budanov, head of the President’s Office, mentioned that the next meeting between Ukrainian and Russian delegations could take place in September, potentially involving American representatives.

Context

  • On August 20, Deputy Head of the President’s Office Serhiy Kyslytsia stated that illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin currently has no desire to negotiate and may be even less motivated after winter begins. He suggested that Putin might believe Ukraine cannot withstand winter, postponing negotiations at least until mid-March.
  • On August 22, Putin acknowledged receiving proposals for potential agreements to end the war through intermediaries, yet described them as “exotic in nature and unacceptable.”
  • On August 24, President Zelensky stated that senior Ukrainian officials, in coordination with US President representatives and European officials, developed new proposals aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
