Romanian Rowing Teams Compete for Finals at World Championships

Today, Romanian rowing teams are competing in the semifinals of the World Championships held in Amsterdam, with hopes of qualifying for the finals. The double sculls teams, both female and male, and the men’s double sculls are in action. Bianca Ifteni and Mihai Chiruță represent Romania in single sculls, with Ifteni having already advanced to the quarter-finals.
UPDATE 14:45: Bianca Ifteni Qualifies for Quarter-Finals in Single Sculls
The first Romanian boat to compete today was the women’s single scull with Bianca Ifteni, who successfully qualified for the next round thanks to a strong performance in a fast-paced series. The 19-year-old world youth champion, who won her title in July in Plovdiv, finished fourth in her heat with a time of 8:13.74, just 10.93 seconds behind the leader.
Dane Frida Sanggaard Nielsen, a bronze medalist from the 2025 World Championships in Shanghai, started strong in lane 6 and maintained her lead throughout the race. The top two finishers from each of the five series advance directly to the quarter-finals, along with the next best 14 times overall, which was how Ifteni qualified.
Initially reported, the third day of the World Championships at the Bosbaan canal features six Romanian crews. Three of these will compete in the semifinals: Adriana Adam and Simona Radiș in women’s double sculls, Ștefan Berariu and Florin Lehaci in men’s double sculls, and Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache in men’s double sculls.
Competing earlier in the day were Ifteni and Mihai Chiruță in single sculls series, which usually see a high number of entries — five series for women and seven for men.
The top two from each series will move directly to the quarter-finals, along with the next best 10 men and 14 women based on overall times. The quarter-finals are scheduled for Friday, August 28.
Also competing today are Mariana Dumitru and Alexandra Ungureanu in the C final of women’s double sculls.
