“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has maintained its position at the top of the North American box office for the fourth consecutive weekend, although its earnings have dropped considerably from the previous week.
Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, the superhero film earned $39 million, reflecting a 45% decrease compared to the last weekend’s figures.
This latest Marvel blockbuster, which had the highest debut weekend in U.S. box office history, has now accrued $854.9 million in the United States and Canada, supplemented by an additional $1.37 billion internationally, as reported by Exhibitor Relations, a company that tracks the film industry.
Released on July 31, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” surpassed the $2 billion mark in earnings just three weeks post-release.
The current record for the North American box office is held by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which grossed $936 million in U.S. cinemas following its release in late 2015.
North America’s Top 10 Films This Weekend
This weekend, the second spot was claimed by another Sony Pictures film, “Insidious: Out of the Further,” which earned $25.3 million in its opening weekend, marking the sixth installment in the horror franchise.
Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey” landed in third place, grossing $19.5 million in its sixth weekend from release, with a total domestic gross of $539.1 million.
Fourth place went to Paramount Pictures’ “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie,” which generated $9.1 million, down 55% from its debut weekend.
Warner Bros.’ sci-fi thriller “The End of Oak Street,” featuring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a couple struggling to survive in prehistoric times, earned $9 million, a 57% decline, finishing in fifth place.
