Alexandru Cicâldău, a midfielder for Universitatea Craiova, recently commented on his team’s 3-1 victory against FC Voluntari in the sixth round of the Superliga.
As they prepare for a crucial return leg against Ararat Armenia, which is pivotal for their qualification to the main stage of the Europa League, Universitatea Craiova had sought to postpone the league match against FC Voluntari. However, the opposition did not agree, leading to the match being played as scheduled today in Bănie.
Following the match, in which he played for 75 minutes, Cicâldău shared his thoughts on the win.
“Victory Boosts Morale for Europe”
“We really needed this victory since we were a bit low in the standings. It’s a good win that also boosts our morale for Europe,” Cicâldău stated during an interview with PrimaSport.

When asked about the physical demands of the congested start to the season, Cicâldău remarked, “Honestly, it’s not easy, but we can’t complain. It’s also beautiful, which is why we play in Europe. If you want to compete in Europe, you need to make sacrifices, live the life of a professional player, and I believe things will be fine; the physical fatigue isn’t as overwhelming.”
Regarding the upcoming match against Ararat Armenia on Thursday evening at 19:00, the midfielder expressed, “Of course, I’m very optimistic; I say this because I trust the entire team, my colleagues, and the staff. We need to approach this match aiming for victory and strive to advance in the Europa League.”
