Arthur Fils Advances to Cincinnati Open Final After Semifinal Win

Arthur Fils, a 22-year-old ranked 21st in the ATP, triumphed over Flavio Cobolli, the 24-year-old Italian ranked 10th, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in just 68 minutes, marking him as the first finalist at the Cincinnati Open. In the final, Fils will compete against either Brandon Nakashima (25 years old, ranked 22) or Frances Tiafoe (28 years old, ranked 23), who are set to clash in an all-American semifinal.
On Saturday, August 22, Fils showcased his dominance against Cobolli, who was a finalist at this year’s Roland-Garros, securing both sets with ease within the allotted time.
Arthur Fils Secures Final Spot with Convincing Win Over Flavio Cobolli
Fils did not give Cobolli a chance, defeating him decisively with a score of 6-3, 6-4, thus advancing to the final match of the Cincinnati tournament.
This victory marks Fils’ third final appearance of the year, following his win over Andrey Rublev in Barcelona and a loss to Carlos Alcaraz in Doha.
The final will see Fils facing either Nakashima or Tiafoe, with the American showdown scheduled to start around 1 AM. Before this match, Jessica Pegula (32 years old, ranked 3rd in WTA) will take on Iga Swiatek (25 years old, ranked 5th in WTA) in the women’s semifinals at Cincinnati.
