Diomande expressed overwhelming excitement upon learning of Real Madrid’s interest in him, calling it a dream come true. “There is no bigger club than Madrid. I couldn’t sleep when I found out. Diomande on Playing for Mourinho
He conveyed his strong commitment to the team, stating, “When you play for Jose Mourinho, you want to die on the pitch for him, and I’m ready to do that.” He added that Mourinho emphasized the significance of his role, leading Diomande to respond, “Why not? It’s Madrid. If you want me, I’m coming.”
Mourinho told him, “You are part of my team now, and I’m glad you are here.” Diomande expressed pride in working with Mourinho, noting the coach’s significant personality, which he believes is beneficial for young players. “He keeps you sharp, which is perfect for my development,” Diomande stated.
In addition, Diomande discussed the influence of Didier Drogba, the legendary Ivorian footballer, on his decision to join Real Madrid. “Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba are legends in my country. I spoke with Drogba two days ago. He told me that Mourinho is like a father and that I need to work hard. When someone like Drogba speaks, you listen. He motivates me to become a legend as well,” he concluded.
Diomande has signed a contract with Real Madrid that runs until the summer of 2033, with a fixed transfer fee of €125 million, which could rise to €140 million based on performance-related clauses throughout his tenure. Primarily used as a right winger, he scored 12 goals and provided 8 assists in 33 appearances in the Bundesliga.
However, he struggled to replicate his domestic success on the international stage, finishing the World Cup with no goals and just one assist. Diomande made his debut for Real Madrid in a friendly match against Schalke 04, where the team secured a 3-0 victory, and he played for 29 minutes.
