Bogdan Lobonț Criticizes Daniel Pancu’s Coaching After Rapid’s Loss to Dinamo

In a recent derby, Rapid faced Dinamo, ending in a 0-1 loss. Following the match, former goalkeeper Bogdan Lobonț offered his thoughts on the performance of the Rapid team and directed pointed remarks toward coach Daniel Pancu.
Lobonț addressed comments made by Pancu regarding the team’s low scoring efficiency, emphasizing that solutions should originate from training sessions.
Critical Remarks from Lobonț
“I would like to highlight a statement made after the match, in which he mentioned training scenarios of 8 against 2 and achieving only one goal from several situations,” Lobonț noted. “I must say: what you practice is what you play! Rapid has created numerous opportunities in their previous matches. Daniel is correct that the conversion rate is too low based on the chances they generate.”
He further mentioned the players’ concentration issues in front of goal, stating, “They have had many favorable situations and should work on their final decisions, but the players also need to take responsibility for this.” These comments were made during Lobonț’s appearance on Voyo Sport Live.
Lobonț referenced Pancu’s previous comments on training effectiveness, noting, “Despite doing many finishing exercises and numerical advantages in training, we still score too few goals even there. We have high-quality players, yet this remains a general problem. In many training sessions, we practice scenarios like 10 against 2, but we still only manage one goal per 7-8 actions. This issue persists even in practice.”
Rapid had multiple clear chances against Dinamo but failed to capitalize. Conversely, Dinamo took advantage of one of their few opportunities, with Mamadou Karamoko scoring the winning goal in the 72nd minute.
Analysis of Alaa Bellaarouch’s Performance
Lobonț also commented on Alaa Bellaarouch, one of Dinamo’s standout players during the derby. “Many believe Bellaarouch kept Dinamo in the game, and his significant qualities have been widely discussed. However, he also possesses some weaknesses that opponents can exploit,” Lobonț stated.
He suggested that adversaries could challenge Bellaarouch more, particularly regarding aerial situations, as his skills when attempting to catch high balls could be improved. “If I were an opponent, I would put him under pressure during high balls, as his technique in those situations is not the most effective,” he added.
