CFR Cluj is in the midst of a leadership overhaul following the departure of head coach Antonio Folha. Reports suggest that sports director Ricardo Cadu is also on the verge of leaving the club.
Having joined CFR Cluj as sports director in April, Cadu is viewed by Ioan Varga as one of the individuals responsible for the appointment of Folha. Varga indicated that the chances of Cadu continuing in his position at Gruia are slim.
CFR Cluj’s Shift in Management
“I believe he will not continue at CFR Cluj. If you ask me, the mistakes started with the choice of coach this summer,” Varga stated, according to reports.
Additionally, Cadu did not accompany the team to Norway for their upcoming match against Tromso, scheduled for Thursday at 20:00.
Cadu Takes Responsibility
In a recent interview, Cadu addressed the hiring of Folha, saying, “I haven’t blamed anyone, neither the players nor the coaches. It’s true that I didn’t personally bring him in; it was a decision of the previous management. However, we all discussed it and agreed on this coach. Yet, I take responsibility for what we decided. Mr. Varga will be the one to determine the club’s direction going forward.”
Possible Departure Earlier This Season
Cadu nearly left the club at the start of the season after their first European match, a 1-1 draw against Alashkert, due to financial instability and outstanding payments to players. However, he was persuaded to stay by Varga and the team members, who requested his continued involvement.
Cadu had a long tenure with CFR Cluj, having joined from Boavista in the summer of 2006. Over eight seasons, he played 250 matches and secured seven trophies, including three Liga 1 titles, two Romanian Cups, and two Romanian Supercups.
