In Yaroslavl, a drone attack has struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery, leading authorities to halt traffic heading towards Moscow from the city. The road closure is in effect from the intersection of Moskovsky Prospect and the Southwestern Ring Road. Residents are urged to avoid travel in the vicinity or to choose alternate routes.
The Exilenova+ monitoring group reported several smoke plumes near the refinery following the incident, sharing images and videos from the scene. In one clip, a local woman expressed her unease about the proximity of the attack compared to past incidents, stating, “I know the refinery is close, but previously, we couldn’t see when it was hit. Now, it feels closer. I have to go to work, but it’s a bit frightening.” The sounds of anti-aircraft defenses were audible in the background.
Russian outlet Astra confirmed that one of the fires occurred on the grounds of the refinery, though details regarding other fires remain unverified.
Slavneft-YANOS processes approximately 15 million tons of oil annually, ranking among the top five refineries in Russia. Its product range includes Euro-5 standard automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, a variety of lubricants, and gas oils. The facility is primarily owned by the vertically integrated company NGK Slavneft, which is jointly controlled by Rosneft and Gazprom, each holding 99.7% of shares. The refinery has been a target of Ukrainian strikes multiple times, having caught fire at least six times in 2026 alone on various dates, including July 16 and April 28.
