FC Argeș faced off against Petrolul Ploiești on Friday evening in Mioveni during the second round of the Superliga. Beyond the final score, the first half featured several noteworthy moments.
Prior to kickoff, fans of FC Argeș displayed a special choreography dedicated to the club.

The message displayed in the stands referred to a significant period in the team’s history: “Like 60 years ago when we made history. Fight today for a new chapter of glory.”
2. Goal Scored from a Well-Executed Play
The opening goal was not a coincidence; it stemmed from a carefully planned set-piece by the Pitești coaching staff.
During a corner taken by Xian Emmers, three FC Argeș players—Sierra, Tudose, and Sadriu—created a collective block against their opponents. They converged on the same area, dragging the Petrolul defenders with them and completely disrupting the visitors’ defensive organization.
Taking advantage of the “screen” created in the box, Robert Moldoveanu expertly attacked the open space near the penalty spot, found himself unmarked, and headed the ball past the former FCSB goalkeeper, Lukas Zima.
This tactical move was executed almost perfectly; the synchronized movements of the three players resulted in positional superiority and opened a clear path for Moldoveanu, allowing him enough time to take a free header.
However, the end of the first half forced Argeș to play with a numerical disadvantage. In the 43rd minute, Ricardo Matos was sent off after elbowing Paul Papp in the chest during a ball-less duel in the Petrolul box. Although referee Horațiu Feșnic was well positioned, he opted to consult the VAR monitor before issuing a red card to the FC Argeș forward.
3. Emotional Moments for Straton: Leaves the Field in Tears
The end of the first half brought a difficult moment for the home team. In the 45+3 minute, goalkeeper Cătălin Straton collapsed on the field and immediately signaled to the bench that he could no longer continue the match.
The medical staff intervened, and the goalkeeper was replaced by Căbuz just before halftime. Clearly affected, Straton exited the field in tears, with the images capturing the disappointment of the goalkeeper, who had to leave the match early due to injury.
