Kernel Export Terminal in Chornomorsk Halts Operations Following Russian Attacks

In response to extensive Russian attacks, the Kernel export terminal in Chornomorsk has suspended operations. The company reported significant damage to its infrastructure, including storage facilities for grain, oil tanks, and power supply systems. Approximately 45,000 tons of wheat and 9,000 tons of sunflower oil have been damaged and blocked, leading to a temporary halt in export shipments.
Kernel, known for producing the “Shchedryi Dar” and “Stozhar” brands, plays a crucial role as one of Ukraine’s largest foreign currency earners. In 2025, the company contributed $3.8 billion in currency inflows, representing about one-tenth of the national total.
The attacks on Odesa ports continued even while vessels from China and other countries were loading, representing direct strikes not only against Ukraine’s economy but also against global food security and international shipping.
The past few weeks have been extremely challenging for Ukrainian businesses, which are incurring substantial losses. These moments underline the critical and resilient role of local entrepreneurs in the face of adversity.
