Inter Milan Pursues English International John Stones Amid Concerns

Inter Milan, under the management of Cristi Chivu, has shown significant interest in acquiring John Stones, the 32-year-old former defender for Manchester City. Stones remains available after not extending his contract with the club.
The English footballer is currently part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad at the World Cup, and Inter is waiting for England to conclude its tournament before initiating discussions with Stones. However, concerns regarding the defender’s physical condition have raised alarms among Inter officials.
During the World Cup held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, Stones started in the match against Croatia but remained unused in the subsequent group games. He played briefly in the match against DR Congo and spent 33 minutes on the field in the game against Mexico. Notably, he participated for the entire 120 minutes in the quarter-final match against Norway.
John Stones’ Move to Inter Contingent on Physical Fitness
This information was reported by Tutto Mercato Web. According to Italian sources, John Stones is the preferred option for Inter’s decision-makers, especially since he could join the club at no transfer fee.
Nonetheless, his fitness issues are a cause for concern. In the 2025-2026 season, Stones was absent for 103 days, missing approximately 24 matches for both England and Manchester City. Similarly, in the 2024-2025 season, he was unavailable for 164 days, missing 34 matches.
Last season, John Stones played 1,144 minutes across 18 matches for Manchester City in all competitions. He had been with the Manchester club for ten years, joining in 2016, after previous stints at Barnsley and Everton. Throughout his time at Manchester City, he made 295 appearances, scored 19 goals, and provided 9 assists. His market value is estimated at 12 million euros.
Stones boasts an impressive trophy cabinet, including one Champions League title, six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups, two domestic Super Cups, and one UEFA Super Cup.
