Adrian Veștea left the PNL meeting. “I will not submit my mandate”

Prime Minister-designate Adrian Veștea declared that he will not submit his mandate by going to the end with the investiture procedure in Parliament. The news left the PNL leadership meeting because he is invited to a TV show.

“I will not submit my mandate, I will run for the position of Prime Minister of Romania. I consider it an act of responsibility that every responsible citizen of this country must assume”, said Adrian Veștea upon leaving the meeting.

Asked if he fears his exclusion from the PNL, President CJ Brașov said: “There is no given resolution, we await with interest what will happen. I have to end up on a television set, please understand me…”

The meeting of the National Political Bureau of the PNL was marked by harsh exchanges between the supporters of Ilie Bolojan and those who want the party to support a government led by the first vice-president Adrian Veștea.

The meeting was opened with a speech by the PNL president, Ilie Bolojan, who expressed his displeasure that the party was not consulted on the appointment of Adrian Veștea as a candidate for the post of prime minister.

“This announcement was made under the conditions in which Mr. Veștea did not notify me or Mr. Secretary General in advance. From this point of view, it was at least a non-collegial attitude. It is about a situation in which the party is put,” said Ilie Bolojan, according to HotNews sources.

I vote against collaboration with PSD

Then he mentioned that there are already three decisions of the party according to which the liberals will no longer enter the social-democratic coalition, and supporting a government led by Vestea would represent their invalidation.

“The violation of principled decisions takes us to an area of repeating some mistakes we made in the past. To see where we are, I again submit to your vote the reconfirmation of previous decisions that the political solution proposed by PNL should NOT lead us to an agreement with PSD. Depending on this vote, we set our discussions. Who agrees to reconfirm our decisions (WITHOUT PSD)?”, asked the president of PNL.

The result was favorable, with 39 votes “for”, 10 “against” and five abstentions.

According to HotNews sources, the “against” votes and abstentions were given by: Adrian Veștea (Brașov), Alina Gorghiu (Argeș), Hubert Thuma (Ilfov), Cătălin Predoiu (Prahova), Alexandru Popa (Brăila), Toma Petcu (Giurgiu), Nicoleta Pauliuc (Ilfov), Valeriu Iftime (Botoșani), George Scarlat (Galați), Ion Iordache (Gorj), Monica Anisie (Sector 2), Andrei Baciu (Sector 3), Ionuț Stroe (Sector 4), Dan Meran (Sector 5), Marcel Vela (Caraș-Severin).

Bolojan's speech was followed by the speech of Adrian Veștea who told the liberals that they must support him in order to continue the reforms. In addition, the designated prime minister said that he wants to consult with Alexandru Nazare and even collaborate with him in the future government.

“We have not yet had a discussion with Minister Nazare, but the priority will be to have the Ministry of Finance,” Vestea said. He demanded that party leaders vote to support his cabinet, saying he wanted the new government to receive a parliamentary vote on Wednesday. He also stated that he wants his government to have a clear majority in Parliament, stating that he will not assume the position of head of a minority government.
