Common fears, such as fear of snakes, spiders, or heights, do not always indicate the presence of a disorder. Psychiatrist Alexander Sergievich told RIA Novosti about this.

According to the specialist, every person has a certain level of anxiety. This is a normal protective reaction of the body that helps to avoid dangerous situations. The doctor noted that specific phobias themselves are most often not a sign of a mental disorder.

However, it is worth seeking help if fear becomes excessive, interferes with daily life, or affects a person’s physical condition. According to the psychiatrist, as anxiety increases, phobias can become more pronounced.

The doctor also gave the example of hypochondria. People who are very worried about possible illnesses sometimes experience psychosomatic reactions. A person may feel pain, dizziness, or other symptoms, although doctors do not find the disease. The specialist emphasized that in such cases it is important not to ignore the condition and, if necessary, consult a doctor.
