Bianca Cucu, 15 years old, Romanian volleyball player with a rapid rise, which Gazeta Sporturilor wrote extensively in March 2025will continue her career in Italy, the athlete from CSM Bucharest transferring to the Cuneo Granda Volley team, which plays in Serie A1. The story of the teenager is fascinating: she already measures 1.85 m and wears a 46 on her foot!
Progress continues for one of the most promising volleyball players in Romania!
Basic player at CSM Bucharest at only 15 years old and debutant in the big national team, the young woman from Buzău has been duly rewarded for her precocity, signing with a club in Italy's top women's volleyball league the other day. The specialized portal doarvolei.ro also wrote about the transfer.
Cuneo Granda Volley is one of the solid teams in Serie A1, the first Italian league and one of the strongest women's volleyball championships in the world. The club from Piedmont has stabilized in the elite in recent years, being a constant presence in the fight for the play-offs. Italy's Serie A1 is considered, along with the Turkish league, the most valuable domestic competition in women's volleyball worldwide.
Exclusively for GSP.ro, Bianca Cucu spoke about the significance of the transfer to Italy and how he decided to follow through on the offer, after turning down opportunities from abroad last year as well. The volleyball player says that the Italians will provide him with all the conditions to be able to go to school in parallel.
“I want to go to a higher level of world volleyball”
“This transfer to the Italian League 1 gives me the opportunity, on a sporting level, to evolve and perform in all aspects.
In the last two years, I had several opportunities, but I was not ready to leave Romania and I wanted to finish high school here as well. It was a good decision because the opportunity now in Cuneo meets all my expectations.
My choice to play in Italy lies in the sports and competitive training that this country offers, having the desire to evolve and move to a higher level of world volleyball.
On the education side, I will be attending a private high school in Italythe club giving me all the support for a good education, but also time to be present at every training. I am glad that I can combine my sports and educational training so well.
At the moment, the only plan for my adventure in Italy is to train as well as I can with my new colleagues, with the coaches and to be part, as an athlete, of such a big competition as that of Italy, alongside some of the best volleyball players in the world”, said Bianca, in dialogue with Gazeta Sporturilor.

“My days? I leave in the morning at 07:00 for school and come back at 20:00 after training”
The newspaper will present Bianca's story last spring, when the young athlete discussed the origins of her passion for volleyball and gave details about how she divides her time between training and school.
“Since I started volleyball, eight years ago, I have worked very hard and surpassed myself every time, spending many hours in the gym. I had very good coaches who gave me confidence. My days are basically very busy, leaving in the morning at 07:00 for school and returning at 20:00 from training.
Apart from school and training, I really don't have time for other hobbies, but when I have a little time I go out with the girls.
My mother played volleyball with me since I was 3 years oldso I've been fascinated by this sport since then”, testified Bianca Cucu in 2025, in the interview given to Gazeta.
“Fortunately, I have this genetic advantage, and in this sport it is favorable,” Bianca said, when asked about her impressive physical characteristics for an athlete her age.
