Krasnoyarsk began to celebrate its 398th birthday.
Since 2026 has been declared the Year of the Unity of Nations in Russia, the key theme of the celebration was the motto “Krasnoyarsk: City of Friendship.”
Holiday Events in the regional center, where representatives of more than 120 nationalities now live, will last four days.

The first solemn event was the start of the 22nd summer season of the city head’s Labor Teams, which this year united more than a thousand teenagers.
The children were greeted by the mayor of the city, Sergei Vereshchagin, the chairman of the city Council of Deputies, Natalia Firyulina, as well as the hero of socialist labor, holder of two Orders of Lenin, Vyacheslav Aksenov. After the ceremony at the “Krasnoyarsk – City of Labor Valor” stele, the squad members went to the May 1st Park for interactive sites and team tests.
“Today Krasnoyarsk is not just the easternmost million-plus city in Russia. This is the center of industrial achievements and technological discoveries, eventful life and high art, gastronomic trends and the bright banks of the Yenisei. Thanks to the veterans, Honorary citizens of our city. Your work and service to the people of Krasnoyarsk have become an example for us and, first of all, for our youth. Our big Krasnoyarsk has many plans and many tasks ahead. And I have no doubt that we will all cope together,” said head of Krasnoyarsk.
At noon, the city flag was solemnly raised on the square in front of the administration. In addition to the head of the city, the ceremony was attended by honorary citizens and representatives of national autonomies. The raising of the flag was accompanied by a gun salute in honor of the fifth anniversary of Krasnoyarsk being awarded the title of City of Labor Valor.
“It’s nice that the ceremonial raising of the flag kicks off the celebration of City Day. Krasnoyarsk is a large industrial, scientific and cultural center of our country. 398 years is a big date, and now everyone is preparing for the upcoming grandiose milestone of 400 years. We have something to be proud of and something to work on today, because our city is always looking to the future,” said Vladimir Chashchin, honorary citizen of Krasnoyarsk, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the region.
A striking creative event on the Central Embankment was the “This Big World!” event. A combined choir of 398 students from children's art schools – according to the number of years the city was turning – performed the anthems of Russia and Krasnoyarsk, as well as popular children's songs.
“Once back in the nineties, I uttered the words: I want the city, located in the geographical center of our country, to be not only an industrial and scientific, but also a powerful cultural center. Years later, Krasnoyarsk became one. I would like the culture in Krasnoyarsk to develop further, and I hope that this will be supported by the good will and energy of the Krasnoyarsk residents themselves,” Mikhail Benyumov, an honorary citizen of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, founder and artistic director of the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra, emphasized the congratulations.
Festive events will continue on June 12, Russia Day, on Tatyshev Island and the Central Embankment, where festivals of national cultures and Russian Culture Day will be held. On the weekend of June 13 and 14, the embankment will host the “Bright Shores” project with interactive locations and evening concerts by the groups “Bis-Kvit” and “Yakhont”.
