Umerov may meet with Vitkoff in the US this week – Bloomberg

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, who heads the delegation from Kyiv at trilateral negotiations with the United States and the aggressor country of the Russian Federation on peace issues in Ukraine, may leave for Miami this week. Bloomberg reported this on May 6, citing sources familiar with the preparations for the visit.

According to interlocutors, in Miami Umerov may meet with US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff.

The agency's sources did not disclose the agenda for a possible meeting between Umerov and Vitkoff.

At the same time, the material recalled that Kyiv had previously hoped for a visit of American representatives to Ukraine. Bloomberg also writes that Umerov’s trip comes against the backdrop of a new round of corruption scandal affecting several current and former associates of President Vladimir Zelensky. After the publication by Ukrayinska Pravda of the so-called Mindich tapes, among the defendants in which Umerov was named, deputies summoned him to parliament to give an explanation.

The National Security and Defense Council stated that the minister would not be able to arrive due to a foreign business trip. Umerov’s press service suggested that the competent authorities check the authenticity of the recordings.
