Festive events dedicated to Muchun, the Evenk New Year, were held in the villages of Evenkia. This was reported by the Agency for the Development of Northern Territories and Support of Indigenous Minorities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

More than 1 thousand people took part in the celebration. National games, exhibitions, concerts and master classes were organized for residents and guests. The largest celebrations took place in Tours. Tribal communities established 15 national plagues. This became a record in the entire history of the holiday.

Guests got acquainted with the traditional way of life of the Evenks, tasted national cuisine, and visited exhibitions of decorative and applied arts. According to tradition, Muchun began with the purification rites of Ikenipke and Seveki. The program also included competitions of Evenki heroes, national sports, traditional games and a display of national clothing. The special guest of the holiday was an Evenk shaman from Buryatia.

In Vanavara, participants tied colorful ribbons on a birch tree and made an offering to the spirit of fire. Fish soup and Evenk sile soup were prepared for the guests. In Baykit, the New Year was celebrated with national songs, dances and rituals. The craftswomen presented an exhibition of northern souvenirs, and the housewives of the tents treated the guests to dishes of national cuisine.

Muchun remains one of the main holidays of the indigenous peoples of the North. It helps preserve the traditions, language and cultural heritage of Evenkia.
