This is the only gas station of its kind in Pomerania. Officials from Szczecin made the decision

The decision to include the station on the list of monuments was to be hastened by the signal that it was at risk of demolition due to a road investment planned nearby. However, it turned out to be a false alarm, which does not change the fact that the entry in the register of monuments was considered justified. According to the Office for the Protection of Monuments, the facility in Kołbaskowo is a Fuerstenwalde gas station [nazwa pochodzi od pierwszego zrealizowanego tego typu obiektu w Fuerstenwalde/Spree w Brandenburgii] — project planned for construction at motorway junctions in Germany. It was established in 1937, so it is almost 90 years old.

Gas station in Kołbaskowo – the quintessence of modernism
The building of the gas station, honored with entry into the register of monuments, has a characteristic shape. “The streamlined shapes of the buildings in the streamline design style were supposed to refer to the aerodynamic and streamlined forms inspired by the aviation, railway and shipbuilding industries, and in this case they evoked the sense of dynamism and speed of highway traffic,” we read in the post of the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments on social media.

The station was built on a triangular plan, and its roof, viewed from a bird's eye view, is V-shaped. As officials from Szczecin point out, originally the buildings on the ground floor contained space for travelers, toilets, a warehouse and a room for station employees. The rooms in the basement were used to store coal and fuels.
The station still operates as a facility belonging to the Orlen concern. After 1945, it was slightly rebuilt – among other things, façade finished with contemporary materials.
