The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a Code Yellow warning of severe atmospheric instability for Bucharest and several counties in the south and east of the country, valid on Thursday, June 4, between 12:00 and 23:00. Meteorologists are predicting torrential downpours, lightning, blizzards and hail.

The warning comes after six other counties in the west and south-west of the country were under Code Yellow for storms between June 3, 8:00 p.m. and June 4, 10:00 a.m. In Timiș, Caraș-Severin, Mehedinți, Gorj, Dolj counties and in the south of Hunedoara county, torrential rains, electrical discharges, wind intensifications, gales with gusts of 50-70 km/h and small and possibly medium-sized hail were forecast. The amounts of water were estimated at 15-25 l/m2, and in isolation they could exceed 30-40 l/m2.

According to meteorologists, in the warned interval there will be periods with torrential showers, electrical discharges, wind intensifications and, in some places, gales with gusts of 50-70 km/h. Small and medium-sized hail is also possible.

In short periods of time, from one to three hours, or through accumulation, the amounts of water will reach 15-25 l/m2, and in isolation they can exceed 30-40 l/m2.

ANM specifies that manifestations of atmospheric instability will occur in limited areas and in the rest of the country, and meteorological warnings can be updated depending on the evolution and intensity of the phenomena.

For the Capital, the special forecast issued by meteorologists shows that the weather will be generally unstable between 09:00 and 23:00 on June 4. The sky will be temporarily cloudy and there will be periods of showers, electrical discharges and short-term intensification of the wind. During storms, gusts can reach speeds of 50-70 km/h, and hail is not excluded.

The estimated water quantities for Bucharest are 15-20 l/m2, and the maximum temperature will be around 25-26 degrees Celsius.

In the context of severe weather warnings, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) advises the population to follow official information and avoid travel during storms. Authorities are advising citizens to secure objects that can be blown away by the wind and avoid trees, poles or power lines.

Drivers are also urged to stop in safe places, away from trees and power lines, until the dangerous phenomena cease.
