Two suspected cases of Ebola, investigated in Brazil. A patient is in serious condition

A man in the Brazilian state of São Paulo suspected of being infected with Ebola has been diagnosed with meningitis, while another suspected case of Ebola has been identified in the state of Rio de Janeiro, local health authorities said on Sunday.

In Rio de Janeiro, the patient was diagnosed with malaria, but the authorities specified that the detection of these diseases does not exclude the possibility of an Ebola infection. Both cases are still under investigation.

The São Paulo case involves a man from the Democratic Republic of Congo who developed a fever after recently traveling to the African country. The patient from Rio de Janeiro had recently returned from Uganda. Both the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda are currently experiencing outbreaks of Ebola.

In a separate statement, Brazil's Ministry of Health said the man from São Paulo was intubated and was in serious condition.
