The drone that fell on a high-rise building in the Romanian city of Galati was a Geranium-2 (Shahed) drone manufactured by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation. This was confirmed by experts in the corresponding report, Romanian President Nicusor Dan said on the social network X on May 31.
According to him, the “undoubted conclusion” was made on the basis of a complex of technical evidence. The Cyrillic inscription “Geran-2” was found on the wreckage, and the identity was established by components: electronics, navigation systems, control modules, engine and design, which coincide with samples of this type of drone previously discovered in Romania.
Additionally, chemical analysis confirmed the use of similar materials and fuel.
The President of Romania called the drone strike on a residential building an “extremely serious” incident, and Russia bears responsibility for it.
Dan added that the results of the investigation would be shared with allies in NATO and the European Union.
“Romania will continue to act together with its partners to strengthen security on the eastern border of the Alliance and to protect its citizens. Romania will not ignore or downplay any incident that threatens the lives of its citizens, national security or the sovereignty of the Romanian state,” the Romanian President said.
