Sorana Cîrstea (36 years old, 18th place WTA) found out her opponent in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros! Mirra Andreeva (19 years old, 8th place WTA) defeated Jil Teichmann (28 years old, 170th place WTA) 6-3, 6-2 and qualified for the next stage of the competition. The duel between Cîrstea and Andreeva in the Roland Garros “quarters” will take place on Tuesday, June 2.
So far, Cîrstea and Andreeva have met only once in the circuit, this year, at the tournament in Linz, where the Russian won in three sets, score 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2.
Mirra serves a lot better, has a pretty complete game and forehand and backhand, hits pretty well, moves well. I've been training with her quite a bit lately and we're getting to know each other. It will be a very tough match, a very physical match, and the difference will be made in a few details

Mirra Andreeva, straight-set win over Jil Teichmann: “I'm happy with the way I played”
Mirra Andreeva was the clear favorite in the duel with Jil Teichmann, but the player from Switzerland did not enter the court thinking that she had no chance. On the contrary, she came back after a first break made by the Russian and from 1-2 took over the lead, showing a varied game with “short”, high shots and with the frequency of changing the direction of the shot.
But Andreeva started playing better and better, stayed focused and found the solutions to foil her opponent's plan. A sequence of 7 consecutive games followed for the 19-year-old tennis player who went from 2-3 in the first set to 6-3, 3-0.
Teichmann stopped Mirra's streak and later saved 3 match points, but it wasn't enough. After almost 90 minutes, Andreeva prevailed 6-3, 6-2 and qualified for the quarterfinals of Roland Garroswhere he will meet Sorana Cîrstea.
“I think I played much better today. I knew Jil would be a difficult opponent, she played very well this week. I knew I would have to have a solid performance, that I couldn't afford to make mistakes and I was very focused. I'm happy with the way I played today,” said the world number 8.
“Sometimes (I don't think I have a lot of experience already). I'm happy it seems that way, but I think I still have a lot of experience to gain. It's only my 3rd season on the WTA circuit. It's not bad. I think my coach helps me a lot, I give her a lot of credit. I have to thank her because she tells me what to focus on and has put a lot of effort into helping me. Thank you!”, added Andreeva, thanking Conchita Martinez.
“I love playing on this clay court. Obviously, the atmosphere… I have to thank the fans for helping me not to get angry and keep playing. I would say that's why I like Paris: sometimes it's controversial, but I always find a good mentality when I play here,” concluded Andreeva.
