The politician escaped from the court to Hungary. A comparison was made with the Ziobro case

As revealed by Hungarian investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi, Grujewski received Hungarian citizenship from the government of Viktor Orban. This decision means that the former head of the Macedonian government can feel safe in Hungary.

Szabolcs Panyi reported on the case in his entry on the X platform. The journalist emphasized that Grujewski obtained Hungarian citizenship in 2022, which was confirmed by a source in the Hungarian government. According to Panyi, citizenship was granted due to the “interests of the Hungarian state”. The journalist added that Grujewski is still in the Hungarian capital.

Zbigniew Ziobro and Marcin Romanowski without citizenship, but with asylum

Nikola Grujewski was associated with the conservative VMRO-DPMNE party, which currently holds power in North Macedonia. In 2018, he left the country to avoid serving a two-year prison sentence for corruption crimes. The Hungarian authorities granted him political asylum, and in the following years Grujewski also received citizenship. There were also other court proceedings conducted against the former prime minister, in which he did not participate personally. In one of them, he was sentenced to nine years in prison for the illegal purchase of real estate, financed by donations made to his party.

Ziobro and Romanowski. Polish politicians targeted by investigators

Zbigniew Ziobro, former Minister of Justice in Poland, currently resides in the United States. Previously, he lived in Hungary for several months, where he enjoyed protection provided by Viktor Orban's government. Ziobro is under investigation regarding the Justice Fund. The prosecutor's office accuses him of, among other things, leading an organized criminal group and abusing his position for criminal purposes. According to investigators, he committed 26 prohibited acts.

Marcin Romanowski, former deputy minister of justice, also received protection from the Hungarian authorities when he took refuge in that country in 2024. His current whereabouts remain unknown. At the end of May, he left the apartment in Budapest where he had been living. According to Polish media information, he was later seen in Serbia and Croatia.
