The US loses its representative in Kiev. In the background there is a conflict with Donald Trump

“FT” reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Davis will leave Kiev in the coming weeks. The diplomat, sources say, is frustrated with her role in the face of differences with President Trump over his declining support for Ukraine.
The British daily notes that the departure will take place at a time when Russia is preparing for a summer offensive and peace talks have stalled.
The end of a 30-year career
The head of the station has already notified the State Department of her decision and plans to retire from diplomatic service – thus ending a 30-year career. She was appointed charge d'affaires in Kiev after the departure of the previous ambassador, Bridget Brink, while formally remaining ambassador to Cyprus.
Brink also left the function for the same reasons – she accused Trump of a soft approach towards Russia and a tough attitude towards Ukraine. He is currently running for Congress.
The department said only that Davis remained in his duties.
“A true expert”
Former US ambassador to Poland Daniel Fried, who knows the head of the mission in Kiev, described her as an exemplary representative of the foreign service and public official.
She is a real expert, and the administration – whether it realizes it or not – needs such people, Fried said in an interview with the Polish Press Agency.
