According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, 8 million Ukrainians are currently abroad. Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga announced this on May 29 in the Verkhovna Rada during an hour of questions for the government, which was broadcast by the Rada TV channel.
“For us, this really becomes a challenge for security. We directly say that the necessary measures will be taken, the necessary steps will be developed to stimulate or create the appropriate conditions for the return of Ukrainians home. This is the main strategic goal. Of course, for this, conditions must be created, first of all, security, in the homeland. This is also a fact, this is also true,” Sibiga said.
The minister added that this issue is being discussed with partners, but not all countries are interested in the return of Ukrainians, given their contribution to economic development, their level of qualifications and adaptability in these countries.
“Therefore, in fact, we still have to fight for our people so that they return,” Sibiga concluded.
