The Mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, announces that he has signed, in support of the Romanian Football Federation, the application file for Bucharest to host the UEFA Europa League final in 2028.
He mentions that money has been allocated in the budget for the necessary repairs.
“Soon we will launch the procedure for the realization of the technical project, in order to carry out the works resulting from the technical expertise, which we already have. We will replace the videocube next year, during the competition break, so as not to affect the match schedule. We will also have additional work to make the 1,200-space above-ground parking accessible. At the moment it cannot be used properly, given that the flow of spectators overlaps with car access“, the general mayor wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
The Romanian Football Federation announced, on April 2, that the first meeting of the Interministerial Committee took place in order to finalize the candidacy process of the city of Bucharest to host the UEFA Europa League final in 2028 or 2029.
UEFA will review the submissions and announce the host cities for 2028 and 2029 in June.
For the next two years, the host cities of the UEFA Europa League final are already set: Istanbul will host the 2026 final, and Frankfurt will host the 2027 final.
The National Arena in Bucharest also hosted the Europa League final on May 9, 2012, with Atletico Madrid winning the trophy after a 3-0 victory over another Spanish team, Athletic Bilbao.
