The results of the last stage of the Serie A season made the team coached by Cesc Fabregas, Como, to qualify for the Champions League for the first time. The final whistle in Milan – Cagliari 1-2 triggered the celebration among the team. In parallel, the supporters celebrated this historic achievement in the streets.

For ranking in the top 4, Como needed to win their match at Cremona, respectively for Roma to lose at Verona or Milan at home with Cagliari.

Cesc Fabregas' side did their job, 4-1 with Cremonese, who were also relegated in this last round, and received a helping hand from Cagliari. The Sardinians won at San Siro and sent Milan to 5th place in the Europa League.

After their match with Cremonese was over, the entire Como team watched the last minutes of Milan – Cagliari together on their phones. The final whistle of that match was the signal for the celebration to begin.

“How do you say Champions?” » Como celebrated a historic milestone!

The players jumped, sang, danced, took out personalized messages and shirts and threw their arms around coach Cesc Fabregas.

After all the team put on their special shirts with the message “Como si dice Champions?”, a play on words meaning “how do you say Champions?”, Fabregas addressed his players:

“It's the last meeting of the season. I told you the day before the game against Parma: we win the two games and we're in the Champions League. I don't know why I told you. That's how I felt, but guys, everything is due to you. Everything is thanks to each of you.

We are trying to help you, to offer you some solutions, but you are the reason why what happened is so beautiful.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This will probably go down as the best group I will ever coach. I have no doubt that you will be remembered forever. This is it guys. Enjoy your vacation, throw a big party, you deserve it all! Whoever goes to the World Cup, good luck.

Now… Where are we going next year?”, asked Fabregas, for the team to “break out”: “In the Champions!”.

At the same time, the streets of Como were “stormed” by thousands of fans eager to celebrate this incredible milestone of the club.

In 2018, Como was back on the road, in this new form, in Serie D, the fourth league. Eight years later he is preparing for his first participation in the Champions League!
