“When the pig will fly”. What a UDMR leader says about the access of ethnic Hungarians to the highest positions in the state

Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna stated, on Digi24, that UDMR will be prime minister “when the pig flies”, stating that the access of some ethnic Hungarians to the positions of president or prime minister depends on an essential condition that the majority population must fulfill.

Tánczos Barna was asked when UDMR will have a prime minister. “When will the pig fly. Never, I think,” replied Tánczos.

Invited to comment on the possibility of a Hungarian being elected by the Romanians as president, he mentioned that it depends on the trust that the two communities have in each other.

“I never say, because an ethnic German has already been. Then he will have total confidence in our community that we never want anything but good for this country,” said Tánczos Barna, quoted by News.ro.

UDMR president Kelemen Hunor also spoke on this topic, on May 11, in a show on Antena 3, in which he was asked if he could become prime minister given that he has dialogue bridges with both PNL president Ilie Bolojan and PSD president Sorin Grindeanu.

“I am honored by what you say, but we have a problem. My name is Kelemen Hunor. We are in Romania after all. We do not discuss that we are after USR as a parliamentary percentage (…) But I think we are far from finding such a variant to accept, to propose such a variant. And here we must stop with speculations, that is not the case”, explained Kelemen Hunor.
