The version of the government that the UDMR does not agree with, but can accept. Tanczos: “He didn't bring very good things”

Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna stated, on Digi24, that the options for a future Executive are a minority government or a technocrat government, adding, however, that “technocracy” has not brought good things to Romania.

Tánczos Barna believes that a technocratic government is a solution, if there is no other option, or a minority government in case someone takes over the government with weaker parliamentary support.

“These are the two options that are on the table today, in case it is really very difficult to rebuild the old coalition. The two options remain, a technocratic government and that's where the discussions begin as to how much, at what level. (…) I saw what technocracy meant in Romania and it did not bring very good things. But if there is no other option, it is one of the solutions. Or a minority government, in which someone assumes the government with weaker parliamentary support and with this mission to lead the country on the path of reducing the budget deficit, closing the PNRR and probably preparing the budget for 2027, at least until the end of the year,” said Tánczos Barna, quoted by News.ro.

The condition in which the UDMR will enter the opposition

He was asked if PSD is the party that should get the first chance to form the Government.

“The biggest party is the PSD. It is one of the options. The other block formed to support Mr. Bolojan is the other option. I think that today there is no other option. If not, we go for the technocrat's option. If he is a technocrat, the technocrat or a non-politician, we will see how non-political he is or if we will get there, he must go to the parties and start receiving support for a cabinet to administer the country's affairs”. Tánczos Barna also transmitted.

He mentioned that UDMR will not support a government of which AUR is a part.

“We said that under no circumstances will we go with a government in which the AUR is a part or that is supported by the AUR, and it is very unlikely that we will go in a government where the majority is created through PACE, SOS or POT or other formations of this kind,” said Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna.

Screenplay by Kelemen Hunor

UDMR President Kelemen Hunor said on May 19 that the solution to the political crisis can be a temporary one, with a new government that will not remain in office until the parliamentary elections in 2028. On the other hand, Kelemen said that such a solution requires several steps that must be taken by the parliamentary parties and President Nicușor Dan.

Kelemen Hunor said that Nicușor Dan could appoint a technocrat prime minister as a first attempt, with the high probability of an unfavorable vote in Parliament. The second option would be a political prime minister, appointed by PSD or PNL, with a party from the former coalition remaining in opposition, but voting for the installation of the new government.
