Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiha said the explosions occurred in close proximity to the institution's headquarters and accused Moscow of targeting “the center of old Kievan Rus”.
“Looking at the broken windows this morning, I can say with all conviction, on behalf of the entire diplomatic team: Russian terrorists will not stop us”the Ukrainian official said.
The attack affected several regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Cherkassy, Kharkiv, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy and Zhitomir. According to the Ukrainian authorities, Russia used an impressive arsenal: about 600 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmass and Parodia drones, as well as dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles.
These included H-47M2 Kinjal hypersonic missiles, Kalibr and Iskander-M cruise missiles, as well as 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles.
Ukraine's air defense forces managed to intercept 55 missiles and 549 drones, but several projectiles hit critical infrastructure and residential areas.
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that more than 80 people were injured and two women lost their lives in the capital. The worst destruction was recorded in Kiev, where 56 people were injured.
The Ukrainian leader also confirmed the hitting of a target in the city of Bila Tserkva with an “Oreshnik” medium-range ballistic missile.
Three rockets hit a water supply facility
One of the worst aspects of the attack was the targeting of water supply infrastructure. According to Zelensky, the Russian military launched three missiles at a strategic target in Ukraine's water system.
Experts warn that such attacks can have catastrophic consequences for major cities. Roman Ianenko, the president of the organization Carbon Free Ukraine, says that the lack of water in large urban centers could generate a “domino effect”, with a major impact on the whole society.
“Water is not just a utility. It is the basis of the functioning of civilization in a modern city”warns the expert.
In a message published on the X platform, Andrii Sibiha stated that the attacks are a clear sign of the Kremlin's desperation.
“The so-called special operation is not producing any results. Russia is suffering enormous losses and has not achieved its goals. In addition, there are no longer completely safe places in the Russian Federation as Ukraine develops its long-range strike capabilities“, the Ukrainian minister said.

He called on Western partners to step up military and economic support for Ukraine, including through new air defense systems, investment in the Ukrainian defense industry and the use of frozen Russian assets.
At the same time, the Ukrainian official requested additional restrictions against the Russian military and the acceleration of Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
Canadian PM: Russian bombing 'doesn't change the fact that Russia is losing this war'
The attack was also condemned by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who said the Russian bombing “doesn't change the fact that Russia is losing this war”.
“More than four years after the illegal invasion, the Kremlin continues to underestimate the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people“, said the Canadian leader.
According to him, Canada will continue to work with international partners to support a “just and lasting peace for Ukraine and Europe”.
