Maximum fuel prices at Polish stations
From March 31, all stations in Poland have maximum fuel prices, temporarily introduced as part of the government's regulatory package “Fuel Prices Lower”, which is intended to limit the increase in prices of these products. They are determined on the basis of the average wholesale price of fuel on the domestic market, plus excise duty, fuel fee, as well as sales margin and VAT.

According to the current announcement of the Minister of Energy on maximum prices, from Saturday to Monday at stations, a liter of unleaded 95 petrol will cost no more than PLN 6.46, unleaded 98 petrol – PLN 7.00, and diesel oil – PLN 6.85. This means that the prices of all these fuels are lower compared to Friday, when a liter of unleaded 95 petrol cost a maximum of PLN 6.48, unleaded 98 petrol – PLN 7.06, and diesel oil – PLN 6.91.
Maximum fuel prices are announced by the Ministry of Energy in a daily announcement, but they apply from the day following their publication in Monitor Polski. If announced before non-working days and holidays, they are valid until the next business day inclusive. On the first day of maximum fuel prices at stations, i.e. March 31, unleaded 95 gasoline cost no more than PLN 6.16 per liter, unleaded 98 gasoline – PLN 6.76, and diesel oil – PLN 7.60.
Last week, regulations were published in the Journal of Laws, which show that the VAT rate on gasoline, diesel oil and biocomponents constituting independent fuels has been reduced from 23 percent. up to 8%, will be valid until May 31. The reduction in excise duty on the same fuels has also been extended until the end of May. According to previous regulations of the “Lower Fuel Prices” package, reduced VAT and excise duty rates were to apply until May 15.
Oil prices increase after the US attack
The attack by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28 resulted in an increase in global crude oil prices and finished fuel prices in the following days, which translated into retail prices of these products at gas stations, also in Poland.
As the Reflex office emphasized in Friday's analysis, “the prices of oil and fuels on the international market depend on the situation in the Middle East, and since they remain unstable, this week we recorded increases in the prices of gasoline and diesel oil at gas stations.”
Unleaded 95 petrol rose the most in price, and diesel oil the least. At the same time, the maximum prices of gasoline under the “Fuel Prices Lower” package reached the highest level since its introduction, while the maximum prices of diesel oil did not exceed PLN 7 per liter – notes the Reflex office.
According to its analysts, “slight reductions in all types of fuel are likely next week, following the decline in wholesale prices at the end of this week.” At the same time, they pointed out that the most important decision will be the future of the “Lower Fuel Prices” package, which is currently valid until the end of May.
