Russia accused Ukraine of attacking a civilian college in Starobelsk. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine responded

On May 22, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook denied the statement of the aggressor country Russia that the defense forces allegedly attacked civilian infrastructure facilities in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

“We inform you that the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflict destruction on military infrastructure and facilities used for military purposes, strictly observing the norms of international humanitarian law, laws and customs of war. Thus, on the night of May 22, 2026, a number of objects of the Russian aggressor were hit, including an oil refinery, ammunition depots, air defense systems, command posts and manpower of the enemy, including one of the headquarters of the Rubicon unit in the area the city of Starobelsk,” the message says.

The General Staff called the news about the shelling of civilian targets manipulative, recalling that Rubicon is a Russian military special unit called the Center for Advanced Unmanned Technologies, whose representatives regularly attack civilian Ukrainians.

Earlier that day, Russian media, in particular propagandists from the TASS agency, wrote that the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly struck a college and its dormitory in Starobelsk in the occupied territory of the Lugansk region.

Press secretary of the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said that Ukraine should be punished for this blow.
